Amen! This issue is on my mind, too. I consider myself a “resident” of two communities, both increasingly impacted by tourism. I like your analogy of a drug — I believe it’s addictive for both for the travelers, and for the local economies that increasingly rely on catering to tourists. Ironically, this often comes at the expense of what made the area special in the first place.
